Intentions Rather Than Resolutions

There’s something I really love about this quiet space between the holidays and the New Year.

Christmas and Hanukkah have passed, and with them all the beautiful gatherings, traditions, meals, and moments of connection. The pace softens. Before the noise of “new year, new goals” fully kicks in, there’s a pause.

And I think that pause matters.

Rather than rushing to make resolutions or overhaul my life, I like to use this time to notice what actually feels good—and what I want more of moving forward.

For me, the answers are pretty consistent.

  • I feel best when I’m outside.

  • When I’m moving my body in ways that feel supportive, not punishing.

  • When I’m exploring—whether that’s a new trail close to home or a place halfway around the world.

Movement doesn’t have to mean intense workouts or rigid plans. Sometimes it’s a long walk, a bike ride with no agenda, stretching on the floor, or hiking somewhere that reminds you how small (and lucky) I am.

Travel doesn’t have to mean checking boxes or going far. It’s about curiosity. Seeing things differently. Letting a place—and the people in it—teach me something.

As the New Year approaches, I’m not setting resolutions. I’m setting intentions.

  • To spend more time outside.

  • To keep moving my body because it feels good to live in it.

  • To prioritize experiences over stuff.

  • To say yes to adventure—big and small.

If you’re feeling the pressure to “do more” in the year ahead, consider this your permission slip to do things a little differently. Maybe this year isn’t about fixing yourself. Maybe it’s about choosing what helps you feel most alive.

I’d love to know—what brings you a sense of vitality as you head into the New Year?
